Asda has brought in a ration on its Just Essentials value range, with shoppers limited to three of any given item.

According to MEN, strong demand of the value products, which launched in May, has led to products becoming out of stock both online and in stores.

The grocery giant has now decided to restrict what people can buy from the range to no more than three of each product until stock levels improve.

The range is made up of low-cost items across hundreds of lines – such as tinned essentials, chilled meat, bread and cereals.

One shopper told a budget Facebook group that she’d ‘witnessed a stressed out woman having to go through all her shopping’ after she was told about the limit at the till.

Her post was met with hundreds of replies, including one, which said: “What if you’re a big family i.e. 6 children and you want noodles or soup for dinner for example or need 3/4 packs of ham or chicken? Ideal in some cases and not in others in my opinion.”

Another said: “They don’t consider bigger families or that you’re shopping for the vulnerable as well. They should take this on board.”

An Asda spokesperson said: “Just Essentials is proving really popular at the moment and we’re working hard to get the out of stock products back on the shelves as quickly as we can.

“To make sure as many customers as possible can buy these products we are temporarily limiting purchases to a maximum of three of each product.

“This will be for a short period and we will let you know as soon these limits are removed. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Don’t you just love how people whine – and use the the phrase “the vulnerable”.

Well here a questions for those Karens – how would the “Vulnerable” feel if they went in and found that there was no stock because some family with 10 kids bought everything on the shelf.

    Where’s Karen’s answer to that.

Temporary rationing to ensure fair distribution is an ideal way to manage supply issues whilst supply is increased.

Because some people fill trolleys full of essentials leaving nothing for others. It’s fair.
