Hamleys reveals top 10 Christmas 2022 toys

// Hamleys reveals list of 10 toys for Christmas for this year
// The list is carefully curated by the buying team who expect the toys to “fly off shelves”

Hamleys has unveiled its top 10 toys for Christmas as it gears up for the much anticipated golden quarter.

The toy retailer is offering a wide range of products “that can be handed down”, with an entry price point of £22 to £100.

Hamleys is expecting the toys to “fly off shelves” this year despite rising living costs as it says the “nostalgic” toys are worthy investments.

Hamleys buying team told Retail Gazette that these are iconic and recognisable brands that offer a lot of nostalgia, so parents are usually also entertained by toys that remind them of their childhood.

Toys such as Barbie and One Trick Pony “bring back memories” but these are launched with a twist, according to Hamleys.

The buying team said they have spent a lot of time talking to customers to curate the top 10 toys list.

They talk to customers in store each Wednesday and usually observe their shopping behaviours. “We guide our customers on what’s trending and what’s exciting,” Hamleys said.

“We spend a lot of time researching. We talk to our suppliers. We want to cater to all customers.”

Hamleys has released its top 10 toys earlier this year to “give parents more time to save up” during the cost-of-living crisis.

As Brits struggle with the rising inflation, Hamleys remains confident that its “regular and loyal customers” will continue to shop at its store.

The buying team ensured that Hamleys sells 50,000 toys so customers have the choice to shop outside of the top 10 list.

They told Retail Gazette that in the past few years, trends have moved on. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, shoppers moved away from technology to be with their families – thus Hamleys’ gadget toys witnessed a decline in demand. 2019 was the year of technology, according to the buying team.
