Toys R Us is to open concessions in WHSmith stores, marking the toys retailer’s return to the UK high street.

Nine concessions will open in the first half of 2023, according to Toyworld, after a deal was inked between WHSmith and Toys R Us Anz, which holds the rights to operate the brand in the UK.

The concessions will include toys and games and if successful will be rolled out across more WHSmith stores.

Toys R Us disappeared from the UK high street in 2018 when it plunged into administration.

However, the brand owner launched a new website in the UK last month in time for the crucial Christmas trading season.

At the time, Toys R Us ANZ chief executive Louis Mittoni said: “Toys R Us and Babies R Us are much-loved brands in the UK, and our teams have described this as ‘returning home’, not just a relaunch.”
