Superdrug celebrated a “tremendous” Christmas as like-for-likes jumped 16% on the back of customers returning to stores.

The retailer, which has more than 800 UK stores, said footfall was higher in December and weekly transactions were 19% above 2021. It had its best trading week ever in the week before Christmas.

Superdrug flagged strong performances in fragrances, beauty services, such as piercing, and cosmetics, where sales were back at pre-pandemic levels.

Its own brand makeup range Studio London, which it launched in November, twice outsold its next best-selling line.
