Iceland has been named as the UK supermarket where prices have increased the most.

The new research from trolley.co.uk Grocery Price Index (GPI) found that while all of the UK’s major supermarkets have increased their prices over the past year, Iceland has seen its prices rise the most.

Iceland has recorded a 10.1% increase in its prices since January 2021.

The cost-of-living crisis has led to grocery price inflation reaching 16.7%, according to recent data from Kantar.

This contributed to an extra £788 to customers’ annual shopping bills.

Percentage price rises of the UK’s major supermarkets between January 2022 and January 2023:

  • Iceland: 10.1%
  • Morrisons: 8%
  • Waitrose: 7.8%
  • Asda/Coop/Sainsbury’s: 6.5%
  • Aldi: 6%
  • Tesco: 5%
  • Ocado: 4.7%

Iceland was also named the supermarket having the highest price rises in the year leading up to November 2022.

Just recently, the CMA said it will investigate supermarket unit pricing to ensure retailers are adhering to rules that help shoppers accurately compare products.

It said it has started to review unit pricing, which shows how much a particular product costs by weight or volume and helps customers choose the best value for money.

Retail Gazette has approached Iceland for comment.

    we used to use iceland all the time for most frozen things but have decided to ditch them now and do our full shop at sainsburys , R.I.P Iceland
