Sports Direct slammed over use of facial recognition tech in stores

The owner of Sports Direct, Frasers Group, has brought in biometric cameras in 27 stores to scan the faces of customers and compare them against a database of suspected criminals.

However, civil liberties campaigners claim that the use of the technology is subjecting shoppers to “Orwellian surveillance”, while the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) revealed that it was investigating whether their use is lawful.
