M&S has opened the doors to its newest store in Leeds which boss Stuart Machin has described as “possibly our best store yet”.

The 97,000 sq ft former Debenhams store houses a range of elements, including a fresh market-style food hall, a spacious clothing, home and beauty department, and a 164-seat M&S Café.

The new store marks a significant investment for the retailer in Leeds and is designed to help make shopping inspirational and easier than ever before with the addition of new in-store features and technology.

Leeds White Rose is one of 10 stores the business is relocating this year and is part of the £480m investment it outlined earlier this year as it looks to create bigger, better stores across the UK, generating over 3,400 new jobs.

Its aim is to get to 180 “brand defining” full line stores like Leeds White Rose.

Shoppers will find a new seamless digital ordering system inside the store where they can place orders in seconds via their smartphone, or by using new digital kiosks.

Store manager Justine Brook, who has worked at M&S for over 30 years, said: “We are thrilled to open our brand-new store today in Leeds White Rose.”

“M&S has been part of the local community ever since we opened our very first stall in Kirkgate Market in 1884, so it’s really exciting to be making this investment in the future of M&S in Leeds and I can’t wait for our customers to explore all the new features that the store has to offer.”

The store’s new-look M&S Café offers customers table service with comfy soft lounge seating.
