ProCook has named Lee Tappenden as its new chief executive, who will step up to the plate in October.

The appointment comes after the cutlery company’s founder and former chief executive Daniel O’Neill revealed he would be stepping down from his position.

Tappenden brings 25 years of experience working with Walmart Stores and Asda, where he eventually progressed to president and CEO of Walmart Canada.

The retail expert currently serves as president of Nasdaq-listed synthetic biology company, Amyris International.

O’Neill will remain as CEO of the retailer until Tappenden joins the group, before transitioning to a non-executive director role at the business.

Commenting on his appointment, Tappenden said: “Whilst we are operating in difficult macroeconomic conditions, substantial work has been done by the existing team to ensure ProCook emerges stronger, and I look forward to building on this excellent platform”.

The news comes after ProCook swung to a loss in its last financial year, as its sales plunged nearly 10%.

O’Neill admitted the economic backdrop had been one of the toughest he had experienced in his 27-year career.
