Ex-BHS owner Dominic Chappell has been freed from prison on parole, after being jailed for tax evasion.

Chappell was released from Guys Marsh prison in Dorset on Friday, having served half of his six year sentence, The Times reported.

The failed businessman was jailed in 2020 for tax evasion on the £2.2m income he received after purchasing BHS, avoiding around £600,000 in taxes.

The disgraced boss was convicted of three charges of cheating the public revenue related to his bankrupt finance company, Swiss Rock Ltd.

His release coincides with the start of a High Court claim trial with Chappell and two ex- colleagues being sued for £133 million by BHS liquidator FRP Advisory for wrongful trading.

The claim centres on allegations that they squandered the property dowry that Sir Philip Green left in BHS without turning it around, The Sunday Times reported.

The department store chain fell into administration in 2016, around a year after billionaire Green sold the company to a consortium led by Chappell for £1. The collapse lost around 11,000 jobs.

Just what we need another thief free to do what he wants. He should do community service for the remainder of his sentence. What’s cretin of a man.

One of the most genuinely unpleasant people that I have ever met. Owed us plenty of money, got some of it back using debt collectors. He has absolutely no conscience, doesn’t care who he hurts.
