Lush to open first-ever hair salon next month

Lush is set to open its first-ever hair salon next month in Brighton.

It will cater to all hair types, as well as reducing salon waste and featuring a unique “spa for your head”.

The ethical cosmetics retailer’s salon, opening 2 December, will offer a range of hair-related services priced between £55 and £80 using chemical-free, natural henna hair dyes.

Mark Constantine, the co-founder and chief executive told The Times this was “quite extraordinary for a hair salon” as most salons use hair dyes containing a mix of ammonia, hydrogen peroxide and p-phenylenediamine.

In a bid to move away from this, the Lush Hair Lab will “embrace a holistic approach to hairdressing and barbering”, with an interior housing a botanical wash room where clients are bathed in light and sound, with hair and scalp treated with the choice of hard or soft water.

Lush also plans to recycle 100% of its salon waste, including a re-use strategy for hair cuttings.

According to the retailer, rubbish produced by the UK’s hairdressing sector could fill 50 football stadiums every year.

Most of this waste includes aluminium foil, dye tubes and the majority of cut hair.
