Tesco IT glitch leaves deliveries in ‘shambles’

Tesco has apologised to customers after a technical fault prevented thousands of grocery orders being delivered on Sunday morning.

Dozens of unhappy customers took to social media to express their frustration, with some branding the lack of communication from the supermarket giant a “shambles”.

Tesco apologised for the inconvenience and said orders were back up and running by mid-afternoon.

Reports of problems peaked at 9am on the Downdetector website after thousands of users logged problems with the supermarket’s website, BBC News reported.

Many customers complained they were notified of the cancellation only 20 minutes before the delivery was due, while others were left waiting several hours before they found out what the problem was.

A Tesco spokesperson told the publication: “We’re really sorry that due to a technical issue, we had to cancel some online orders today.

“Our technical team have worked around the clock and have now fixed it.

“Customers who were impacted have been contacted directly. We apologise again for the inconvenience.”

The supermarket has asked customers to rebook their delivery slot in the coming days. However, some users said they were struggling to find suitable times.
