Dr Martens launches new expert repair service including customisations

Dr Martens has launched a new repair service for its shoes, in partnership with expert footwear restorers The Boot Repair Co.

The British footwear specialist said it will offer more than 10 different services, ranging from sole to eyelet replacements, using the same machines, methods and materials that are used to make its brand new pairs.

The services cover the brand’s boots, sandals and accessories, with prices starting from £22 per item.

Additionally, shoppers will also be able to customise their footwear by choosing from a range of welt and stitching colours where possible.

To use the facility, customers can visit the repair service web page, choose a service, add it to their basket and select “return delivery” at checkout to have the shoes repaired and returned.

A Dr Martens spokesperson said: “Whilst we pride ourselves on the durability of our products, we know that our wearers purchase our shoes and accessories to be worn day in and day out, making it impossible for them not to experience general wear and tear.

“As a brand we care about the longevity of our silhouettes and we know our customers do, too, so launching our repair service felt like a great way to give customers the option to breathe new life into their well-worn Doc’s.”

Dr Martens saw sales plummet 21% over the golden quarter, blaming “abnormally warm weather conditions” and ongoing issues with its US business for the decline.

Revenues fell to £267.1m for the three months to 31 December, which were dragged down by wholesale revenue, which plunged 49% due to “continued caution from wholesale customers resulting in a wear order book”.
