Greggs has confirmed all of its stores are trading normally again after an IT issue caused some sites to close on Wednesday.
Shoppers at the bakery chain found some shops shut or unable to take card payments at cities including London, Cardiff, Manchester and Glasgow – although it remains unclear how many stores were affected.
Customers took to social media at the time to express their frustration, with one X user writing: “Greggs this morning cash only! Sitting here with my coffee watching almost everyone have to walk out.”

An update from the business on Wednesday afternoon confirmed: “We’ve resolved a technical issue that affected tills in some of our shops earlier this morning.
“All affected shops are now trading as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to our customers.”
The news comes as a series of food retailers across the UK have recently experienced technical issues.
Last week, Sainsbury’s CEO Simon Roberts issued an apology to customers after a software glitch disrupted contactless payments, leaving thousands without their food orders.
Tesco also had to cancel a “small proportion” of supermarket deliveries after a technical issue affected its services, a spokesperson said.
