Lidl gears up for Easter shopping surge as it predicts busiest day

Lidl is expecting a surge in shoppers over Easter, as it predicts Saturday 30 March will the busiest day of its bank holiday weekend overall.

The German discount grocer saw almost 2,000 customers come through its doors per minute on Easter Saturday 2023, and predicts even more shoppers will visit its stores this year.

Despite remaining open as usual on Good Friday and Saturday, Lidl warned shoppers aiming to beat the peak crowds to visit its stores between 8am and 10am or after 6pm.

The retailer also confirmed all of its shops across England and Wales would be shut on Easter Sunday.

The news comes after rival grocer Aldi recently forecast its “biggest and best Easter yet,” expecting to sell around 20m hot cross buns and 8.6m own-label chocolate eggs over the season.

The discounter is forecast to spend around £8m with British suppliers on hot cross buns and Easter eggs in the run-up to the holiday, as well as a further £4m on fresh meat, fish and meat-free alternatives and around £34m on British fruit and vegetables.
