Sainsbury’s is launching a range improvement programme across its convenience store estate as part of a wider strategy to deliver a ‘Next Level’ shopping experience.

The initiative, which kicked off last weekend and is set to run over the next few months, will see a range review carried out, with the supermarket looking at whether lines need to be removed or added, and if the selection of ‘dine in’ or food-to-go lines should grow.

Sainsbury’s will also be looking at how it can better use the space in its convenience sites to deliver optimum range for shoppers on-the-go.

As part of its annual convenience rollout programme of between 20 and 25 stores, the grocer will also be looking at locations with the right footprint where is can optimise space.

As part of this expansion, earlier this month Sainsbury’s unveiled a plan to open a convenience store at Edinburgh airport in the coming months – it’s first ever airport store.

The retailer’s range improvement programme forms part of a wider strategy to become the first choice for food among UK shoppers.

This will focus on creating additional space for food in around 180 higher potential stores over the three year plan, as only 15% of its supermarkets currently offer the full selection.
