Tesco has hired Deliveroo global strategy chief Francesca Jones to lead its rapid delivery service Whoosh.

Jones shared on LinkedIn that she had had taken the new head of position at the UK’s largest grocer after spending three years at Deliveroo.

She joined the delivery platform at the start of 2022 as a global training and operational excellence manager for its on-demand grocery offering Hop before later being promoted to global head of strategy for site operations.

Jones replaces Greg Bertrand, who is now head of Tesco’s F&F brand.

The grocery giant, which launched the Whoosh service in 2021 from a single store in Wolverhampton, has since rolled out the service to 32 large stores in addition to over 1400 Express stores around the country.

Tesco reported more than 1.2m orders were placed in the run up to Christmas as its grocery sales rose 3.8% in the six weeks to 4 January.
