Ikea is set to open its first “small store” in the former Homebase unit in Harlow later this month.
It is the first of three new concept stores to open, with two more planned for Norwich and Chester in the coming months.
The Swedish furniture giant said format has been designed to be “quick-to-market and offering a simpler, faster shopping experience, just around the corner”.
Ikea Harlow will open on 24 July and will feature a new compact layout for the retailer, while still housing its showroom, market hall and dedicated areas for its planning services.
Around 5,000 products will be on display, with 3,000 available for immediate purchase and the rest available to order online.
Customers will also be able to shop pre-loved Ikea products and bring back unwanted items in exchange for store credit, as well as grab some food at its The Swedish Bite cafe.
Ikea UK and Ireland chief executive and sustainability officer Peter Jelkeby said: “The opening of the Ikea Harlow small store is a landmark moment for us as we continue to evolve our retail offer and explore new ways to serve more people in more places.
“We look forward to joining this thriving town as part of the local community when we open our doors later this month.”
