Simon Wilson, Deichmann UK managing director, has departed from the company to take on a new role with a large German retailer.

The retail boss’s last day at the footwear specialist was 31 July, Retail Week reports.

Wilson worked for Lidl for more than five years before joining Deichmann in January 2012 as its international sales director in Germany.

The executive moved to the UK in 2014 as the shoe retailer’s buying and marketing director and was promoted to managing director in January 2023.

With Wilson at the helm, Deichmann’s UK business saw a 14% rise in sales from £121.7m to £139.1m during the full year to December 31 2023.

Additionally, annual losses fell from £3.25m last year, to a net loss of £1.29m.

Online sales were up 14% for the period, as the business invested additional funds into its marketing to improve brand awareness.

Commenting at the time, Wilson said: “2023 saw many challenges for Deichmann in the UK but also a lot of successes. We continued our store expansion with nine new stores opening including our first Northern Irish store in Belfast.

“We also refitted eight of our current stores including Basingstoke which had a £500k investment and grew from 365m2 to 570m2 in size.”
