Furniture Village has appointed retail veteran Ian Oliver to its board as a non-executive director.
The retailer said Oliver brings “an outstanding track record in retail, marketing, brand development and manufacturing”.
He most recently served as the group chief executive of Sofa Brands International, stepping down in May after almost 20 years with the business.
Prior to that, Oliver worked as director for branded furniture at Christie Tyler and oversaw its Duresta, Derwent, G Plan, Corinth, and Parker Knoll brands.
He also spent 16 years at M&S, joining the retail giant in 1987, and held multiple senior buying roles across menswear and home.
During his time as the business’ head of the furniture and soft furnishings division, Oliver grew sales to over £100m within five years and established its first in-house marketing department. He also helped to launch the Per Una brand.
Commenting on his appointment, Oliver said: “I’m honoured to be joining the Furniture Village Board and am looking forward to contributing my experience across retail, marketing, buying, brand development, and manufacturing.
“Furniture Village is a strong and forward-thinking business, but what excites me most is the culture, the focus on improvement, and the genuine care for its people.”
The retailer’s chairman Peter Harrison added: “Ian is a long-time friend of Furniture Village, and his experience, insight, and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow.
“He brings a unique combination of retail and manufacturing expertise, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the board.”
