Lidl is set to boost salaries for its hourly paid staff in September, marking its fifth pay rise in two years.

Entry-level pay for store employees will increase from £12.75 to £13.00 nationally, growing to £13.95 with length of service, while staff in London will see pay rise to £14.35 and up to £14.65.

The announcement takes the business’ investment in pay to over £70m in two years as the discounter maintains its position as one of Britain’s highest paying supermarkets.

Lidl GB chief people officer Stephanie Rogers said: “Over the last two years, we’ve held our spot as the fastest growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket.

“This continued success is made possible because of the ongoing efforts of our colleagues, including customer assistants, shift managers, warehouse operatives and cleaners, whose commitment is greatly appreciated.

“In recognition of their contribution, we continue to ensure we are market leading on pay.”

Lidl previously announced a pay rise for 28,000 of its hourly-paid colleagues in February, with the new rates coming into effect in March.

Entry-level pay at the discounter increased to £12.75 nationally, up from £12.40 and rose to £13.65 with length of service. In London, new starters saw pay rates go up to £14.00, increasing to £14.35 over time.
