Marks & Spencer has launched its first dedicated resale service on eBay, allowing customers to trade in pre-loved clothing, footwear and accessories through a new official M&S x eBay store.
Powered by resale partner Reskinned, the platform combines eBay’s reach with expertise in garment repair, resale and recycling.
The move is part of the high street giant’s Another Life initiative, which underpins its Plan A sustainability strategy across fashion, home and beauty.
Unlike the retailer’s in-store clothes recycling scheme, the new service also accepts rewearable items such as footwear, handbags, belts, hats and scarves.
Shoppers can complete a short form on the M&S website or scan QR codes in stores to send pre-loved items free of charge via courier to Reskinned.
Any return that includes at least one M&S-labelled item qualifies for a £5 voucher towards a £35 spend on fashion, home or beauty at M&S.com.
Items suitable for resale are cleaned, repaired and listed on the M&S x eBay store, while those that cannot be resold are responsibly recycled.
Products traded in through M&S’s existing in-store recycling scheme will also now be resold on eBay, with the retailer pledging 15% of its profits from sales to Oxfam.
M&S director of sourcing and technology in fashion, home & beauty Monique Leewenburgh said: “At M&S, we are committed to supporting customers to do the right thing and playing our part in reducing textile waste.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with the pre-loved experts at Ebay and Reskinned to launch a dedicated resale platform.”
She continued: “This not only offers more ways for customers to give items another life, but also an opportunity for customers to purchase items they might have missed from previous seasons, which are pre-loved.”
The launch comes amid growing demand for pre-loved fashion. JoJo Maman Bébé recently launched its first resale platform for pre-loved kidswear, in partnership with children’s clothing marketplace thelittleloop.
In March, Vinted also opened its first ever second-hand luxury fashion pop-up in London, based in the city’s The Adria hotel.
