Topshop has collaborated with British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker to launch an 18-piece capsule collection, which was previewed at her show at London Fashion Week.

The show was attended by many guests, including King Charles III and British rapper, Lil Simz.

This launch follows the firm’s announcement that it will be returning to the British high street.

The collection aims to explore social mobility and the “modern-women in motion”. It is inspired by Coker’s London upbringing and the places that have shaped her as a person.

Coker is known for her “precise-narrative led approach” to luxury womenswear, and her signature style is “reimagined” through sculptural denim pieces. The denim items in the new line has been designed to meet Topshop’s circular creation critera which includes recycled content and durability.

Coker said: “Topshop was my first job when I was 16, so this collaboration is personal, but it’s also a statement of intent. We designed with restraint, maintained quality, considered quantities, and circular choices, because accessibility shouldn’t mean excess.

“The collection is built to live beyond a season: transeasonal, versatile, and made with longevity in mind. I believe the positive future of our industry lies in collaboration.”

She adds: “The reach and resources of brands like Topshop, coupled with the ideas and rigour of young designers, is how we shift our approach to design in a tangible way. It takes bravery to interrogate what ‘accessible’ can mean and to take real steps to evolve it. We don’t have all the answers, but this is a step in the right direction, and a foundation we can build upon.”

The campaign film was directed by Coker’s brother Ade Coker and photography was shot by a long time collaborater of Coker’s, Rashidi Noah. Virna Pasquinelli created millinery for the campaign from upcycled collection samples.

Michelle Wilson, managing director of Topshop, said: The reaction to the runway reveal shows just how significant Coker’s creative voice is. This collaboration reflects everything Topshop stands for today, championing individuality, creativity and cultural relevance.

“Working with Coker has been incredibly inspiring, and the collection represents a shared belief in fashion as a platform for storytelling. We’re proud to support her vision and bring something so considered, expressive and meaningful to our global community.”

The collection features knitwear, blazers, pleated trousers and jumpsuits and will be available from early March.
