Waitrose has officially opened a new Little Waitrose in Bristol’s The Arches, marking the latest milestone in its multi-year, £1 billion investment programme across its UK store estate.
The compact format site, just under 3,000 sq ft, offers more than 3,400 product lines, spanning Waitrose’s premium own-brand ranges (including Waitrose No.1), its Essential Waitrose value range, Waitrose Duchy Organic, household brands and an in-store bakery.
The shop will also offer Uber Eats and Deliveroo (from today 26 September), and Just Eat (from 29 September) delivery to local customers, as well as click & collect for John Lewis and Waitrose “Entertaining” orders.
The Bristol opening has also created 25 new jobs, with all employees joining as Partners in the John Lewis Partnership.
The launch is part of Waitrose’s broader growth and modernisation plan, which will see further investment across its shop network, including refurbishments and new store openings.
Also in the Bristol region, Waitrose intends to open its first full-line supermarket in seven years in the forthcoming Brabazon development, adding around 150 roles when it launches in 2027.
To support this growth, Waitrose is also constructing a new south-west distribution centre. The 360,000 sq ft facility at the Mountpark Bristol 360 site is expected to open toward the end of 2026 and will serve roughly 50 existing shops, while allowing for further expansion.
The business estimates the new site will reduce annual mileage in its supply chain by about 2,225 tonnes of CO₂, aligning with its commitment to net zero by 2035.
