Asda has announced a major round of price reductions today (7 October), cutting the cost of 956 everyday grocery products both in-store and online.

Prices reduced by an average of 6% across a host of categories including Core Grocery, Household, Non-Edible and Free From, with some prices dropping by more then 30%, said the retailer.

These include key cupboard staples like pasta, cooking sauces, tea and coffee.

Customers will see Yorkshire Tea (240 pack) reduced to just 2p per teabag from £6.32 to £5, Asda Gravy Granules reduced from £1 to 69p and Asda Chicken Tikka Masala (392g) down from £2.40 to £1.57.

As part of the investment, Asda is also cutting prices on 49 products in its ‘Free From’ range, with some reducing by up to 15%, recognising that customers with food allergies or intolerances often face higher costs.

“By reducing these prices, Asda is ensuring that value is accessible to all customers, regardless of dietary needs,” said a statement from Asda.

“With food price inflation reaching 5% in September, Asda’s latest Income Tracker reveals that lower-income households are facing a weekly shortfall of £74 between their earnings and the cost of essential spending. These price cuts are intended to help ease financial pressure by delivering meaningful savings on a wide range of everyday grocery products as customers head into the most expensive time of year, ” the statement added.

The price cuts are in addition to the 3452 Rollback deals currently available, demonstrating Asda’s commitment to being the UK’s lowest-priced full-service supermarket.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer officer at Asda, said: “We understand the pressure families are under from rising living costs and we’re stepping up our support as we enter an expensive time of year for our customers.

“We’re cutting prices on the everyday products they rely on the most, helping them bring down their food bills and get even more value every time they shop with us.”

Asda reported its best quarterly performance since Q1 2024 in August, as it continued to push ahead with its turnaround plan.

The business recorded its fourth consecutive quarter of improved like-for-like sales during its Q2 trading for the period ending 30 June.

However, it saw take-home sales fall 2.6% over the 12 weeks to 10 August, leaving it with an 11.8% share of the UK grocery market over the period, according to Worldpanel by Numerator figures.
