Tesco is highlighting its Black-owned suppliers for Black History Month.
The supermarket said there would be a host of products and stories to discover over the month, with “everything from African and Caribbean food and drink brands, to Christmas decorations and cards that include Black characters and books from Black authors”.
This year, the grocer is also set to feature additional products from Black-owned brands including sauces, vegan meals, premium haircare and coffee, alongside more Black-owned brands available on Tesco Marketplace.
Online pages on Tesco.com and Tesco PLC will enable customers to view profiles and buy products from brands such as Christmas decoration company March Muses, haircare brand Flora & Curl and ready meal business YumChop.
Additionally, Black-owned business leaders are being prominently displayed in various Tesco stores across the country, alongside their products that are sold throughout the year.
The retailer will also display social media content featuring Tesco customers, as well as The Gym Kitchen founder Segun Akinwoleola and Here We Flo co-founders Susan Allen and Tara Chandra, produced in partnership with LADbible.
The supermarket’s Black History Month activity falls under The Black Action Plan at Tesco, which aims to achieve fair and equitable representation for the UK’s Black community across four key areas by 2030.
The news comes after Tesco launched a pilot-partnership with Be My Eyes to enhance in-store accessibility for customers with sight loss earlier this month.
Announced on World Sight Day (9 October), the collaboration enables users to connect directly with Tesco colleagues via the app to receive personalised visual assistance while shopping.
