Marks & Spencer (M&S) has appointed British Airways chairman and chief executive officer Sean Doyle as a non-executive director effective 1 December 2025.

The move forms part of the retailer’s ongoing board renewal programme as it advances its Reshaping for Growth strategy.

Doyle’s appointment follows confirmation that former Asda CEO Roger Burnley will also join the Board on the same date, while Archie Norman’s tenure as Chair has been extended.

Doyle brings extensive leadership experience from the aviation sector, overseeing operations at one of the UK’s most high-profile and operationally complex businesses.

His expertise in brand stewardship and large-scale transformation is expected to complement the high street retailer’s strategic focus on modernising its operations and deepening customer engagement.

M&S chair Archie Norman said: “We are delighted to have one of the UK’s leading serving chief executives join our board. M&S is the most public of public companies, and Sean will bring great leadership and strong operating skills as we prepare for the next phase of reshaping.”

Sean Doyle added: “Being the CEO of Britain’s flag carrier is a special role, and few brands can match the national significance of M&S. I’m privileged to join a Board dedicated to protecting the brand’s magic while modernising the business for future growth.”

Doyle will join M&S’s Audit & Risk and Nomination Committees upon appointment.
