Primark has boosted its share of products made using recycled or more sustainably sourced fibres, according to its new sustainability and ethics progress report.
The fast fashion giant, which recently saw its UK sales decline, revealed that 74% of its garments now used recycled or more sustainably sourced fibres, compared to 66% in 2023.
Roughly 5% of its goods were designed for easier recycling, while circular design was used in 20% of its jersey range and 8% of its denim offering.
The retailer also highlighted that all of its clothing, textile and footwear suppliers had onboarded to its traceability programme.
Primark Cares director Lynne Walker said: “People come to Primark for great value fashion and everyday essentials that are made to last.
“Four years on, we’ve shown that you don’t have to choose between sustainability and value. Our sustainability commitments belong to all of us at Primark and we continue to use our scale for good to help drive change both within Primark and outside it.”
Additionally, the business recorded an overall 5.7% reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2019, which included a 71% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 (market-based) emissions and a 4% decrease in Scope 3 emissions.
Walker added: “We know we have a huge responsibility as a global retailer and there is always more to be done but this year’s report shows that our efforts, and those of our suppliers and partners, are starting to bring about meaningful change.”
