Health retailer Boots Hearingcare has relaunched The Great Big Hearing Test for 2026.

It comes as audiologists warn that millions may be withdrawing from conversations and social events due to undiagnosed hearing loss.

According to Boots Hearingcare, the Christmas period can act as a “pressure test” for hearing loss.

Research shows that 64% of those with hearing loss “find social gatherings more difficult during Christmas”.

Boots Hearingcare audiologist Kayleigh Waters said: “These signs might have been particularly prevalent in group settings like Christmas dinners or during family games. This could manifest as withdrawing from conversations, becoming quieter than usual, or frequently asking people to repeat themselves.

“Many people don’t realise that these are classic signs of hearing loss as they can be easily mistaken for tiredness or distraction.”

The Great Hearing Test hopes to increase awareness and encourage the UK public to act. It aims to position hearing checks as a routine part of preventative care.
