Sports retailer Adidas has unveiled its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, which is fronted by Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet.
Thee five minute hero film has been directed by Mark Molloy and is designed to feel reminiscent of late 90’s and early 2000’s football advertising.
Devised by Lola USA, part of Omnicom, the campaign is part of the retailer’s ‘You Got This’ brand platform. It also stars a host of other celebrities including Messi, Bad Bunny, Lamine Yamal, Jude Bellingham and Trinity Rodman.
Chalamet plays a street football recruiter who is attempting to put together a team to win against a trio of street football players.
“I used to dream of playing with these guys,” said Chalamet.
“You know, I was playing at Pier 40 as a kid, thinking about Beckham’s free kicks, Del Piero’s goals, and Zidane’s volleys – doing my own versions. I love this game, so it’s unbelievable to be doing this with adidas, captured with the best to ever do it. I’m a traditionalist, I don’t know soccer, I know football, and I can’t wait for this summer’s World Cup.”
Vice president global brand communications at adidas Florian Alt said: “With ‘Backyard Legends’, we celebrate that freedom.”
“It’s a reminder that self-belief and playfulness are the real winning mindset.”
