Tesco has offloaded its opticians business to Vision Express for an undisclosed sum.
The grocery giant provides an optician service at 206 of its large stores, and they will now continue to operate as a concession under the management of Vision Express.
The move is the latest attempt in Tesco’s ongoing strategy to return to its former glory by re-focusing its business on grocery retail.
Approximately 1500 staff employed within Tesco Opticians are set to be transferred to Vision Express following a consultation process.

“This allows us to further simplify and strengthen our UK business and ensures our customers are still able to enjoy high quality eye care services from Vision Express in our larger stores,” Tesco UK chief executive Matt Davies said.
“Our priority now is to work with our colleagues and support them through this change.”
Other non-core assets that Tesco has sold off since the start of last year include Dobbies Garden Centres, Harris + Hoole coffee shops and the Euphorium upmarket bakery.
