Plans have been submitted for a new 200,000sq ft retail park in Rotherham, costing around  £50 million.

Submitted by Harworth Group, the retail park development proposal features a restaurant and office space, but it will mostly be retail.

A transport hub, medical centre and gym are also  included in the proposal, alongside a new town square and a mix of independent and major  retail outlets.

The new retail estate is expected to create around 700 jobs and help “contribute towards creating a strong, vibrant and healthy community” in the Waverly area.

“The proposed development would bring forward brownfield land which has been vacant for a number of years and ensure the mixed-use centre services and facilities are deliverable in the current market,” the application reads.

Harworth chief executive Owen Michaelson added: “We expect the local centre to become central to the Waverley community, as it co-joins the AMP and the residential area, offering a range of essential facilities and bringing hundreds of job opportunities to the region.”
