Fenwick hires ex-Harrods’ accessories buyer Sue Shields

Fenwick has poached rival luxury department store Harrods’ former accessories buyer Sue Shields to manage bags and accessories buying.

She joins Fenwick following a 12-year career at Harrods, where she held various roles after joining as soft accessories buyer in 2004, before leaving in 2016.

It is understood that Shields will now be responsible for managing bags and accessories buying across Fenwick’s entire store estate, in what is a difficult time for the retailer.

In April Fenwick announced plans to “modernise and reorganise the business”, seeking to centralise operations, moving away from its previous model which saw each of its nine stores run autonomously.

Earlier this month it announced that 408 jobs would be axed as part of this restructure, having places its entire 3300 staff in a consultation process.

The job cuts were also partly due to a 93 per cent dive in annual profits in the 52 weeks to January 26 to £2 million, alongside a 3.6 per cent drop in sales to £411.1 million.
