// Urban Outfitters will launch an online rental service in the US this summer
// The service will allow customers to borrow 6 items to wear for a month before swapping them
// Its womenswear service will be called Nuuly

Urban Outfitters has announced the launch of an online subscription service for its US shoppers following a rise in its first-quarter sales on Tuesday.

The service, which is due to launch in summer, will allow customers to borrow six items of womenswear clothing to wear for a month before swapping them.

The fashion retailer said its service will be called Nuuly.

It is not yet clear if it would be expanded to Urban Outfitter’s UK market as yet.

The news follows the retailer’s net sales rising one per cent to $864 million (£681 million) for the three months ended April 30.

“Our sales growth was driven by our seventh straight quarter of positive retail segment ‘comps’ as well as continued growth in our wholesale segment,” Urban Outfitters owner and chief executive Richard A Hayne said.
