Marks &d Spencer has announced plans to open a 60,000sq ft store at British Land’s Giltbrook Shopping Park in Nottingham next summer.

A total of 150 new and existing M&S colleagues will work at the new site, with recruitment beginning in spring 2020.

The new department store is part of the retailer’s transformation plan, which includes launching stores in busy districts.

M&S chose the retail park because of its free parking with 2300 spaces and the retail and leisure facilities mix.

“Customers’ shopping habits are changing and so it’s important we change to reflect the way they want to shop – seamlessly integrating our in-store and online experiences,” M&S property director Sacha Berendji said.

British Land head of retail leasing Ben Grose said: “Retailers continue to open stores in well located and well managed destinations that support omni-channel retail.”

Earlier this month, M&S told analysts that the turnaround of its embattled clothing division was “behind schedule”.

The bellwether retailer’s capital markets day saw it update investors and brokers over the progress of its transformation programme, which has taken place since the start of the year under the leadership of group chief executive Steve Rowe.
