JD Sports snaps up stake in Hairburst as it moves into the beauty market

JD Sports has taken a stake in online hair and beauty brand Hairburst, marking the sports retailer’s first foray into the beauty market.

Hairburst, which was founded in 2014 by James Hill, Henry Gwilliam and Matthew Cragg sells vitamins, shampoos and styling products.

The business now has 45 staff and 1.5 million followers on social media which helps it sell online and its products are also stocked in Boots, Sephora and Superdrug in Europe, North America and Asia.

The size of the stake and deal has not been disclosed but it is understood that JD Sports will help Hairburst to buy a number of bolt-on acquisitions to build a group of beauty brands in a further sign of how the cosmetics industry is being transformed by online platforms.
