Dunelm is set to acquire a former Debenhams shop in the East Yorkshire town’s Flemingate development.

The centre’s owners Wykeland Group said the new two-storey shop was expected to open “just before Christmas”.

The arrival of Dunelm is expected to create about 40 jobs, and building work should begin in the next few weeks.

Debenhams has closed all its stores after being forced to shutter in December.

Dunelm, which has 170 outlets in the country, has leased the 41,000sq ft store in Beverley.

Earlier this year, the Debenhams store in Staines was acquired by a developer to be converted into a residential-led, mixed-use scheme.

Developer Future High Street Living purchased the site after real estate funding specialist ASK Partners provided it with a £9.5 million loan.

The vacant department store has four storeys and a basement on a 0.66-acre site.

The developer has prepared “indicative plans” for the scheme and said that Spelthorne Council’s emerging regeneration policy includes the site on a ‘preferred option’ list, meaning that it could receive planning permission for around 250 homes.

It’ll do very well in Beverley. Great news.

Odd that Sahar fails to mention which Yorkshire town this new opening refers to? It’s Beverley… and I’m sure it’ll trade very successfully.

Odd that you missed the part where it says ‘Beverley’ further down the story.
