Toys R Us has secured its first two retail estates in Southern Ireland by leasing the remaining units at Westend Retail Park in Dublin and Parkway Retail Park in Limerick.

The toy retailer will rent the unit at Westend Shopping Park, comprising of 10,000 square foot plus a mezzanine of 7,000 square foot, at a cost of €325,000 per annum. The 17,800 square foot vacancy at Parkway Retail Park will rent for €200,000 per annum.

Toys R Us Ireland Chief Executive, Brian Donoghue, stated: “We plan to open up 10 outlets in Ireland and we are delighted to have chosen Westend Shopping Park and Parkway Retail Park as the locations of our first two stores. These locations give us a great exposure to our consumer…”

The toy megastore currently operates more than 1,500 outlets worldwide, with stores across 33 countries including 50 in Britain and Northern Ireland. The company arrived in the UK in 1985 with the opening of five stores and has since been awarded the Tommy Parent Friendly Award nine times.

Toys R Us will be joining the extensive list of retail brands in Westend including Next, Nike, New Look, Lidl and Argos. Homebase, TK Maxx, Currys PC World are among the brands to feature at Parkway.

Earlier this year Toys R Us announced plans to open 10 stores in Ireland over the next 5 years in a bid to take on Smyths, which is currently the country‘s most popular toy retailer.

Brian Donoghue expressed confidence that Toys R Us could successfully compete with Smyths in its home market.
