Ecommerce giant Alibaba is set to join the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) as it continues to fight against the sale of counterfeit goods.

A non-profit international organisation, the IACC is dedicated to combating counterfeit goods and piracy. Alibaba CEO Jack Ma has made his position on the topic clear before, calling counterfeiting “a problem that challenges all forms of distribution, whether in e-commerce or offline retail.”

He is scheduled to give a speech at the IACC‘s Annual Spring Conference on May 19. The conference itself will focus on the role intermediaries can play in collectively addressing the issues.

As a sales platform, Alibaba attracts businesses from all over the world, primarily to sell to the giant‘s bustling Chinese market. Brand recognition is critically important here, particularly as Chinese consumers are showing an increasing interest for foreign goods, and doubly so as “global import” was listed as one of Alibaba‘s primary focuses for 2016.
