Online retail giant eBay has poached Tesco’s director of general merchandise to take over as UK vice president.

Rob Hattrell, who leaves the grocery giant after eight years, will replace Tanya Lawler and will report directly to eBay European vice president Paul Todd.

Having joined Tesco in 2009 as IT director, Hattrell held various subsequent roles at the retailer leading to his role as director of general merchandise which he’s held since 2014.

Lawler spent four years in her role at eBay, but stepped down from the role last November.

“I am delighted to welcome Rob Hattrell to eBay,” Todd said.

“He brings vast experience in both online and physical retail, and I am truly excited about the ways in which these experiences can help to drive the Ebay UK business forward in 2017.”

Hattrell added: “By focusing on our customers’ needs and by continuing to enable entrepreneurship I look forward to helping build the next chapter of Ebay in the UK.”
