Tesco is set to cull around 1700 deputy manager positions across its Express convenience stores as part of a management restructure.
The grocer said affected staff will have the opportunity to apply for one of the new 3300 shift leader roles being created, or take redundancy or perhaps take up a deputy manager role at a non-Express store in Tesco‘s estate.
The Big 4 retailer added that staff switch who switch the lower-paid shift leader roles would be financially supported.

“To help improve our service to customers in our Express stores we are aiming to have more of our colleagues on the shop floor, more often,” a Tesco spokesman said.
“To help achieve this we are creating more than 3,300 shift leader roles which, in turn, means we will no longer have deputy managers.
“We appreciate that these changes will impact our deputy manager colleagues, and will do everything we can to support them throughout this period.”
