Topshop saw a steep drop in sales over the Christmas period, placing it firmly among the worst performers on the high street.

According to The Sunday Times, in the seven weeks after Black Friday Topshop‘s sales dropped by nearly 11 per cent.

Sir Philip Green‘s Arcadia Group, which owns brands like Burton and Miss Selfridge alongside Topshop, also saw an overall sales decline of 6.5 per cent.

Green challenged these figures.

“We are bored with this continual harassment by The Sunday Times. There are 28,000 people working in Arcadia,” he said.

“It is a private company, it has not published a Christmas statement in 14 years and it does not intend to do so now. The numbers are wrong.”

This will come as a disappointment for the embattled billionaire, as woes at his most successful brand during the peak trading season will pile on the pressure exerted by the continuing BHS debacle.
