Asos rolls out visual search tool

The online fashion giant Asos has launched a new technology which allows customers to search for items with the use of a photo.

Its new visual search tool will be available for mobile users and has been added to the existing iOs Asos app. Users can snap a photo of an item they like and the technology will scan the site‘s 85,000 items and display the most similar.

According to the etailer, the technology will soon be rolled out on Android systems too.

This comes as Asos aims to solidify its mobile offering, revealing that it gains 80 per cent of its traffic and nearly 70 per cent of orders through smartphone use.

“We know (mobile) is where our customers are and it‘s how they interact with us every day, so we are always looking for ways that are mobile native to make their experience even better,” Asos‘s digital product director Andy Berks said.
