Matchesfashion has appointed Tom Athron as its new chief operating officer following the announcement of his departure from John Lewis last October.
Athron spent 12 years at John Lewis in various roles, the most recent of which was as group development director. Prior to this he spent six years as Waitrose chief financial officer.
It is understood that before he announced his departure last year, he was earmarked to become the partnership’s managing director. Instead, Paula Nickolds was handed the position.
Upon the announcement of his departure, John Lewis’ chairman Charlie Mayfield said: “Tom has enjoyed a successful 12 years in the partnership and has decided that he now wishes to explore new opportunities outside the partnership.”
“We wish him every success in the future.”
