Amazon also defended its position by saying that it follows all regulations in relation to the sale of knives and requires age verification.

Charity Jan Trust is one of the charities to have criticised the online retailer for selling the knives.

The charity said it is “concerning” that the nature of the gadget is to conceal the knife.

The information in the seller’s description reads: “Impress your friends by pulling out a credit card and transforming it into a knife.”

Jan Trust chief executive Sajda Mughal said the description aims to appeal to young people at a time when knife crime is at an all time high.

Mughal said more efforts on tackling knife crime should be employed to get to the bottom of why young people carry weapons.

The Ben Kinsella Charity also expressed concern that the knives are too easy to buy online.
