Schuh has pledged to make a £3 million donation to coronavirus relief efforts through the Schuh Trust.

A donation of £2 million will be made to the National Emergencies Trust while the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal will receive a sum of £1 million.

Founded in 2011 following the acquisition of the footwear retailer by US company Genesco, the Schuh Trust has donated between £200,000 and £250,000 to a variety of causes every year since.

“We have decided that these unprecedented times call for unprecedented action,” Mark Crutchley of the Schuh Trust said.

“And so, the trust will be selling off a significant chunk of assets to fund this donation, with the intention of providing critical support to people that urgently need it now, rather than at some point in the future.”

Following the donations, the Schuh Trust said it would continue giving to worthy causes, albeit at a lower level.

“The trustees firmly believe that this is the right decision in the face of this exceptional crisis, to ensure they can offer urgent support now for those in need,” it said.
