Halfords has filled a number of vacancies with ex-services personnel and reservists, the retailer announced ahead of Armed Forces Day this Saturday.

The bikes and car parts chain said it interviewed hundreds of former servicemen and women since signing the Armed Forces Covenant last year.

It has since taken on scores of recruits in its stores and Autocentres across the UK.

Halfords also made a number of pledges to support service leavers and veterans, helping them access training and careers across its retail shops.

“The impact of the scheme shows how signing the covenant has made a real difference,” Halfords chief executive Graham Stapleton said.

“We have found that those with a forces background have some great attributes such as discipline, teamwork and problem solving, so I’m very proud that our scheme has had a positive impact especially during this time.”
