Aldi has begun its first ever UK click-and-collect service as part of a trial to offer “greater flexibility” to its customers.
The German discounter is currently running a trial of the service for its colleagues from a store in the Midlands and plans to extend that to more British customers in the coming weeks.
Customers will be able to choose from a full range of grocery items online, then travel to their local store where they can have their shopping brought to their cars by store colleagues contact-free and in line with social distancing measures.

Aldi said it would extend the trial to customers if it proves successful with colleagues. It also plans to extend the service across further stores.
The trial will begin at its stores in the East Midlands, London, Cambridge and Greater Manchester, and is in partnership with Deliveroo.
The Deliveroo service currently allows customers around selected stores to order from a range of more than 300 Aldi products.
The click-and-collect trial will offer time slots to customers to arrive at click-and-collect points in store car parks.
“We know that more and more people want to access the high-quality, affordable food they know they can get at Aldi,” Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive Giles Hurley said.
“This is yet another way we are innovating to make sure we best serve our existing customers and make Aldi’s great products and unbeatable prices available to even more people.”
