Amazon has poached Hammerson’s head of leasing Stephen Daniels as its senior real estate manager for physical stores as it continues to roll out checkout-free Amazon Fresh shops across the country.

Daniels has served for Hammerson for nearly seven years and joins Amazon as the online giant seeks to expand its Amazon Fresh estate.

“Thrilled to have joined Amazon this week at such an exciting time in their journey into physical retail spaces in the UK,” Daniels said.

“Huge thank you to all my friends and former colleagues at Hammerson for an amazing 6.5 years working on some of the best retail destinations out there, a very bright omnichannel future awaits.”

Last month, Amazon opened three more Amazon Fresh locations in Euston, Wandsworth and Chingford, bringing the total number of UK stores to 15.

The ecommerce giant’s other stores can be found in Ealing, Wembley Park, Camden, White City, Canary Wharf, Dalston, East Sheen, Islington, Richmond and Holborn, all in walking distance from both Tesco and Sainsbury’s autonomous supermarkets.
