John Lewis donates £100,000 to support Ukraine & pledges to match donations up to £150,000

John Lewis Partnership has given £100,000 to the British Red Cross charity to help the people of Ukraine during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

A statement from John Lewis Partnership chairman, Sharon White, posted to its Instagram and Twitter feeds, said: “I am deeply distressed by the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine – innocent people losing their lives, their loved ones, their homes, and families being separated.

“Today, the John Lewis Partnership is making a first donation of £100,000 to the British Red Cross directly in support of their Ukraine Crisis Appeal. This will help provide food, water, medicine, warm clothing and shelter to those whose lives have been torn apart by this invasion.”

John Lewis has also said it will match donations from customers and employees, up to the value of £150,000.

Since the fighting began, a host of retailers have have lent their support to Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country, including Kurt Geiger and Tesco while other big name retailers such as Asos and H&M have halted trading in Russia entirely.
