Tesco trials in-store flexible office space

// Tesco to test out a flexible working area within its New Malden supermarket store
// The venture comes as Tesco seeks new ways to fill space in stores

Tesco will introduce office space inside one of its stores as part of a trial after signing a deal with flexible office operator IWG.

From later this month, the owner of office operator Regus is to test out a 3,800sq ft flexible working area within Tesco’s New Malden supermarket, with room for 12 private desks, 30 co-working spaces and a meeting room.

The deal comes as Tesco seeks new ways to fill space in stores where it once sold electrical goods, music or films now largely bought digitally.

Tesco head of strategic partnerships, Louise Goodland said: “We are pleased to be working with IWG to offer customers the chance to work more flexibly from their local Tesco.

“We are always looking to serve our customers and communities better and we will be interested to see how they respond to this new opportunity.”

The office venture, called Spaces, will join other Tesco partners including sports equipment seller Decathlon, Pets at Home, and Holland & Barrett, which have sprung up to fill spare supermarket space.
